Persol | Clip-On Shades Collection
I started wearing glasses on a regular basis a year or two ago. This presented me with few problems, as I lived in Philadelphia until this May. Philadelphia has a lot of good things going for it, but weather isn’t one of them… The days when I really needed sunglasses were few and far between. But in Los Angeles, sunglasses are a necessity, for two reasons: it’s sunny all the time and you’re driving all the time. So I had to switch over to contacts this past summer… But I might not have if I had a clip-on option as fly as this one from Persol.
Oliver Peoples | Summer 2011 Sunglasses | Bernardo | $310
These sunglasses are pricey, no doubt… But as far as designer sunglasses go, they’re not too pricey (especially since they’re polarized), unless you’re the kind of person who loses and/or sits on a pair of sunglasses every three months or so.
David Yurman | Safari Polarized Sunglasses | $595
I mentioned below that one should soon begin considering what sunglasses to wear on a daily basis for the upcoming summer. These are an excellent candidate. Unfortunately, I doubt I have many readers with such lavish eyewear budgets; regardless, the shape and style are worth noting. You just might be able to find something at your local surplus store for a tenth—or less!—of the price.
Oakley | Frogskin | Acid Series
It’s the first day of March. That means the first day of June is only 3 months away. That means you should probably start considering your go-to sunglasses for the summer. These probably shouldn’t make the cut: they are too bright and flashy; you can’t wear them to work. But if you’ve already got a trusty pair, these could make a good addition to your collection.
Rule of thumb regarding bright plastic sunglasses: limit wearing them to situations where you’d be comfortable wearing a tank top.
Burberry | Tubular Temple Aviator Sunglasses
These look like a good choice if you are trying to improve your sunglasses game for the summer… The blue model seems perfect for the beach and the BBQ, while the black model—click through to view—seems to be the choice for work, as long as your work could benefit from looking intimidating.
